BUYING COMPARISON / PAYMENT & CARE

Pay Monthly vs
Upfront Websites

Compare what you pay, what is included and who looks after the website afterwards. The payment model is one decision; the actual scope and agreement matter just as much.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Compare the full arrangement.
Not just the first payment.

PAY MONTHLY

Build and care,
brought together.

Can suit a business that wants the website and ongoing support organised under a regular payment. Check setup charges, the minimum term and the boundaries of care.

PAY UPFRONT

A build payment,
then ongoing choices.

Can suit a business ready to fund the project initially and arrange future hosting and changes. Check the actual supplier agreement; ownership and support do not follow automatically from the payment label.

What is the difference?

With a pay-monthly arrangement, the website is supplied under an agreement that includes regular payments. That may combine the build with hosting and support, and may still include a setup fee. With an upfront arrangement, the main build is paid for as a project, either at once or in agreed stages. Ongoing services can still have separate charges.

Neither description tells you everything about the service. Two monthly packages can have different page limits, edit allowances and exit conditions. Two upfront quotes can include very different work. Start by comparing what the business needs and what each proposal actually delivers.

Our published costs, calculated clearly

Our standard offer combines setup and monthly care. Starter is £99 setup plus £39 per month for one page. Business is £199 setup plus £59 per month for up to five pages. The figures below use those actual published rates; they are not market averages or a comparison with an invented competitor quote.

Setup plus monthly payments at current rates
Plan12 months24 months*36 months*
Starter£567£1,035£1,503
Business£907£1,615£2,323

Calculation: setup plus the stated number of monthly payments. Both plans have a twelve-month minimum from launch, then continue monthly. *Longer periods assume the current rate continues and exclude separately agreed work and outside costs. Your quote confirms the total payable and applicable tax treatment.

An upfront alternative can only be compared fairly once its actual quote and ongoing costs are known. Do not compare our first-year total with another provider’s build-only figure and assume that settles the decision. See our complete prices and package scope.

When a monthly arrangement can make sense

It can suit a business that wants a manageable initial payment and a defined route for hosting and small updates. You should know what the regular payment covers, what starts a separate quote and how to request a change. A clear allowance is more useful than a vague promise that everything is included.

Our Starter and Business edit allowances are fifteen and thirty minutes per month respectively. They cover suitable small changes and do not roll over. Extra pages and specialist functionality need a separate scope. Read how our pay-monthly website service works.

When paying upfront may suit the business

An upfront project may suit a business with the budget available and a clear plan for ongoing administration. It may also fit a bespoke scope that does not match a standard package. The key is to identify who will manage hosting, changes and support after the build.

Ask about the work included, the review process and the final deliverables. Do not assume an upfront payment automatically includes every account, premium asset or unlimited future edits. Compare the contract and licences as well as the design proposal.

Ownership and exit need explicit answers

For our plans, the domain stays in your name. After the minimum term and settlement of outstanding charges, custom site files can be provided on request. Third-party assets and services retain their own terms. Cancellation, early termination and handover arrangements are confirmed before work starts.

For any supplier, ask the same questions before accepting the quote. Where is the domain registered? Who controls the accounts? What can move? What costs remain? A useful answer identifies the actual arrangement rather than relying on a label such as rental, subscription or ownership.

Choose the website size separately

How you pay does not determine how many pages the site needs. A focused one-page website and a larger business site can both be supplied through monthly or project arrangements. Start with the customer questions, then compare the costs for a suitable scope.

Read one-page versus multi-page websites, return to the website planning guide, or ask for a quote based on your actual brief. Our main Eastleigh website design service covers the wider offer.

Basis: our published Starter and Business plans, reviewed 4 November 2026. General comparisons describe questions to check with a supplier; they do not claim universal contract terms, tax treatment or prices for other businesses.

Website payment questions

Is a pay-monthly website always cheaper?

No. Compare the setup payment, monthly term, hosting, updates and any handover or extra costs. The lower initial payment does not by itself establish a lower long-term cost.

Does paying upfront remove ongoing costs?

Not necessarily. Hosting, domains, email, software licences and future updates can still need payment. The exact arrangement depends on the supplier and contract.

Which model does Eastleigh Website Design offer?

Our standard Starter and Business packages combine a setup payment with monthly website care. Bespoke work is quoted individually. We do not advertise the standard packages as zero-upfront offers.
